"Poor
absorption among Americans - especially those under stress, those eating
poorly, and senior citizens - has become an enormous problem. When the
human body cannot absorb nutrients properly, and when the food
themselves are of questionable nutritional value, the body is severely
compromised as a self-healing organism." -Todd Ovokaitys, M. D

Total Calm
The ability to relax and sleep well is an important part of
keeping healthy and preventing stress. Stress can cause or worsen
some of our most common killers - cancer, heart disease, and
cerebrovascular disease. It is also directly related to other common
disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, impotence, depression,
anxiety, ulcers and headaches. In addition, the stress of illness
itself can hinder recovery from almost any disease.
"It's safe to say that a lack of sufficient sleep in this country
is an epidemic and that self-abuse in the sleep area continues at a
rampant rate," says Dr. Ronald Chervin, the director of the
University of Michigan Sleep Disorder Center and an associate
professor of neurology. Studies continue to find a relationship
between the poor quantity and quality of one's sleep and many health
problems ranging from hypertension and cardiovascular problems to
depression and the onset of diabetes.
Meditation and a variety of relaxation practices can help the
body and mind to create sense of calm, self-reliance, and connection
with life's natural flow. However, some people also require
additional nutritional support to help balance out the body's
natural mood and sleep chemistry. Total Calm is an advanced,
laser energized amino acid supplement designed to reduce stress, tension
and anxiety, thus supporting mood and sleep.
The ingredients in Total Calm are a combination of GABA, a relaxing
neurotransmitter component, L-Taurine, a calming amino acid, and
5HTP, the precursor for making serotonin.
GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) is a neurotransmitter that
helps balance the chemistry of the brain. It is an important amino
acid that functions as the most prevalent inhibitory
neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, helping to prevent
over-firing of the nerve cells. Supplemental GABA can be useful in
producing a state of relaxation and it can help relieve anxiety and
stress. It is used to treat both epilepsy and hypertension where it
is thought to induce tranquility in individuals who have a high
activity of manic behavior and acute agitation. It is sometimes used
as sexual a stimulant because of its relaxing capabilities, as well
as with prostate problems, since it also assists with the release of
sex hormones.
L-Taurine functions with glycine and GABA as a
neuroinhibitory transmitter. It is an abundant, sulfur-containing
amino acid found in the central nervous system, skeletal muscle and
the brain and heart. L-Taurine is considered to be necessary for the
control of many biochemical changes that take place in the aging
process. Low levels of L-Taurine and other sulphur containing amino
acids are associated with high blood pressure, and L-Taurine
supplements have been shown to lower blood pressure in some studies.
There have been reports on the benefits of L-Taurine supplementation
for epileptics, as it helps stabilize the excitability of membranes,
which is very important in the control of epileptic seizures. It has
also been found to control motor tics, such as uncontrollable facial
twitches.
Vegetarians with an unbalanced protein intake may have
difficulty-manufacturing L-Taurine. (L-Taurine is present in meats
and animal products, but not in plant products. It is also found
abundantly in shellfish.) Dietary intake is thought to be more
important in women as the female hormone Estradiol depresses the
formation of L-Taurine in the liver. Estrogen replacement therapy
blocks the manufacture of L-Taurine, as will chemotherapy or a lack
of good bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.
5-HTP (5 hydroxytryptophan) is used in the production of
serotonin, a mood elevating chemical found in the brain, the
digestive system, and blood cells. Serotonin is a key
neurotransmitter normally found in relatively high concentrations in
the brain. It has several functions throughout the body, including:
- enhancing mood, learning, memory and sexual arousal,
- modulating appetite, aggression, body temperature, blood
pressure, metabolic heart rate and sleep,
- smooth muscle stimulation (e.g. intestinal peristalsis).
Low levels of serotonin in the brain are associated with
feelings of depression. Studies have shown that low levels of
serotonin are associated with increased levels of aggression in
animals.
As with all of Gematria's quality formulations, a highly advanced
laser enhancement process is applied to improve the consistency
of the form of the ingredients in Total Calm for even greater
bioavailability.
Suggested Usage
As a dietary supplement, take 3 capsules per day. It is advised to
take this supplement in the evening before going to bed.
Ingredients: A proprietary blend of Gamma-Aminobutyric
Acid (GABA), L-Taurine and 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5HTP).
